You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies.”

A film about which someone had said to me that ‘ you don’t need to see it at the cinema, as it’s all about the dialogue’ but a film which I highly recommend you see, regardless if you see it at the cinema or wait for it to come on DVD. You need to see The Social Network!

A truly inspiring film, about the story which lies behind the world’s largest spread social networking site, Facebook.A film about all of us, the power of the internet and the way in which our world is changing.

Ok, so there had to be the usual Hollywoodian love twist with ‘the girl who broke his heart and he never managed to forget’ which if you do what I do and ‘google’ your facts will soon come to the conclusion that it wasn’t true. Just like Erica Albright says it herself on her own website some of the scenes in the film never happened. However, despite all of this the film had a massive impact on me, not just because it’s based on a true story, or that it’s about Facebook which I happen to be addicted to, but simply because it is recent and true. The events in this film are so real and immediate, that it inevitably brought back memories of my own time at university when I first heard about this cool new student site called Facebook. It was in 2006 and I was studying at Bournemouth! Only four years ago, the entire social networking landscape was very different from what it is today. A lot of this is because of Mark Zuckerberg ! Thanks Mark!

Another reason for which I loved this film is because it’s encouraging. It shows a clear example of how hard work, determination and intelligence can succeed and overcome many obstacles and override many of the barriers imposed by the society we live in.

For those who want to better understand the power of social media, as well as for those who live and breath it every day, The Social Network is a must see!
