” Not every criminal wants to be one”
Not every bad film wants to be bad either. Unfortunately this was the case with this star studded London based gangster movie.
While the actors and Ferrell in particular did an amazing job at speaking in very good and strong cockney accents this was part of the downfall, especially to the foreign audiences. Having lived in the UK for over 10 years now, I am confident my English is pretty good allowing me to even differentiate between regional accents, but I found myself lost in this film more than a couple of times, feeling the need to ask someone ‘ what did he just say’? Not a very good thing, especially since this happened during the key scenes. I have then left the cinema not sure I understood what this film was about, as you never even get to see the two characters walking out by eachother as the poster makes us believe. Their stories are completely parallel to eachother and the plot doesn’t make much sense in the end. Maybe I am looking at this from a very ‘logical’ angle but if there was some sort of a deeper message this film was trying to send, it failed to deliver. Or at least I didn’t get it!
