The Great Gatsby
Directed by Baz Lurhmann, with the expected stunning cinematography and the one and only Leonardo DiCaprio as the main character, the movie paid tribute to this great American novel and I enjoyed every minute of it. However, it didn’t quite reach the inspirational levels I hoped for…
Visually beautiful, the producers paid close attention to the story and Tobey Maguire gave an exceedingly authentic performance. However, apart from Jay-Z’s obvious musical influences which didn’t really work for me …the movie lacked something…
‘If you don’t like something, I’ll change it…‘ is just an example of the powerful lines Gatsby tells Daisy, when he tries to shower her with his affection, to show her the power she has over him – the man who now has everything …but still…that desperately clinging to the past, ‘heartbreaking love’ feeling failed to come…
I don’t know if it’s my old romantic memory of the book I once studied in high-school, or even the memory of that imposing and charismatic ‘Gatsby’ Robert Redford portrayed so well in his version, but somehow… Leonardo DiCaprio doesn’t quite seem to own this role…
Overall, the movie succeeds and it seemed to me the younger generations (who probably didn’t get to read the book yet) seemed to love it – so I’d still highly recommend it as it’s well worth the watch – but maybe don’t waste your money seeing it in 3D!

Nice recap. I think i already have all i need to know about the movie. One of the main reason I have not seen this movie is because of DiCaprio, there is just something not believable or authentic about his acting. i am sure many people will go up in arms about what i just said, but he just does not connect for me.
Yeah, I agree with you here…even though I am a huge DiCaprio fan…this time it just didn’t work for me…but as I walked out of the theatre I overheard some teens say ‘wasn’t Leo just the BEST choice for this role!’ It made me ponder on the generation gap…
